Q :- What’s your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?
A :- Come here with a mindset of studies. There’s a lot for you to enjoy, but I feel that once you are here you must first concentrate and study and then the other things would automatically be taken care of.

Q :- Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA ?
A :- I have learnt from the discipline people observe in their lives. Petty things that we don’t take care of in normal routine in India can make an offense here and you could be charged heavily for that. Strictness is observed in smallest of the things no matter how small it may be.

Q :- How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India ?
A :- In India you feel “I have had enough of this now”, but in USA you feel “OK I have to do this because “Learning is Fun”.

A :- Yes, In India probably you may get the courseware but the exposure to industry is limited, hence spending money to get practical learning is worth it.

Q :- What’s your advice to parents of aspiring students?
A :- Parents need to plan for this in advance, for this as you cannot plan it in a hurry and get through. Please assess your child and if you feel he/she would be able to adapt and cope up with the intense academic pressures here, do send him/her for sure.

Q :- Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA
A :- For parents I would say, don’t expect that your lad would be able to listen to you fully while in a busy schedule and send all the kitchen stuff properly and think as if you are going to move into a new house and you need to take all that is required(eating stuff, kitchenware, sanitary etc.)

Q :- What are you future plans?
A :- My future plans are to give my 100% here at the graduate level and find a good job before I graduate and earn good amount of money to repay the loan and then get back to India in 5 years after graduation.

Q :- How did you fund your higher education?
A :- Loan amount + Father’s Savings.

Q :- Why did you choose Credila?
A :- In one line, “It gives an approval/sanction letter before the I-20 arrives and sometimes it helps in getting the I-20s also”.

Q :- Please tell us about which course you are studying and why did you choose that course?
A :- I’m pursuing my MBA in Global Finance. I chose this course, primarily because of my interest and my banking and finance background that HSBC has provided. So with my MBA in Finance, I can leverage my professional work experience to fulfill my career goals.

Q :- Why did you choose the USA for higher education?
A :- Firstly, The US education system is a practical and application based system, this is what attracted me most about studying in USA. Secondly, the US is world’s no.1 economy that controls the global economy in all means. The US, where all latest things happen will be best place to study business education especially the finance. And lastly, US business schools are world renowned. After graduating from here, a bright and exciting career is assured in any part of the world.

Q :- How is Thunderbird School of Global Management different than any other USA University based on whatever you have heard from your friends about?
A :- Thunderbird has differentiated itself with other US B-schools in many ways. Firstly, it provides you total international business focused education. How a global business leader will be successful in today’s global business atmosphere is what you learn in Thunderbird. Secondly, Thunderbird focuses on ethics in business and Cultural Intelligence in all ways. You feel it as soon as you step in the campus. Lastly, it’s a place for all the “misfits”. Misfits means people who think differently, who work differently and who behave differently. This is what the key of success as global business leader.

Q :- Are you happy with your decision?
A :- Absolutely, yes.

Q :- Where do you eat? Do you cook yourself?
A :- I eat at home and sometimes in campus. But lots of other students who live on campus eat in school cafeteria.

Q :- Where do you live? On-campus or off-campus and why?
A :- I live (off-campus) with my brother here at Scottsdale. To cut on living costs.

Q :- Please share some of your experiences of the USA for aspiring students
A :- The best investment in life is on you in the form of education. And I assure you that MBA in US would be an investment that you would never regret. Go for it! It’s really worth.

Q :- What’s your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?
A :- A higher study in the US means expense around in the range from $80,000 to &100,000 so think carefully each and every step you are taking. Be serious and clear about future goals. Most important thing, and most difficult at the time, is choosing the best school, which fits in with your requirement. So perform a thorough research before taking a decision. And finally, be ready for lots for hard work (daily). All the very best!

Q :- Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA?
A :- Most important part about study in the US is learning about a new culture altogether. This is an opportunity to get to know different people, how they work, how they behave and you learn a lot from all these things, which is a life time experience.

Q :- How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India?
A :- Studies in the US are very creative, interactive and practical. Everything is so high-tech that laptop and internet becomes primary needs for studies. Exams are very creative, not theory based but all are very practical and application oriented. Course material is very latest to the industry and class discussions are based on latest happening in the business world. Final grades are not just based on your final exams but also based on you participation on class discussions, team work, team projects, daily assignments and so on. So get lot of opportunity to get a good grades and it makes learning very interesting.

Q :- Is it worth spending so much money to get a degree from the USA as compared to similar degree in India with lower costs?
A :- I would say it’s worth investing in you to in the form of MBA from the US. We have professors here who are visiting faculty in ISB, Hyderabad and we have students in Thunderbird from IIM Bangalore who are studying here as part of exchange program. The reason for giving these details is faculties in the US b-schools are world class; curriculum is world class and the learning environment in exciting and latest to the industry that you will not get that in Indian b-schools until unless they like IIMs so in that category.

Q :- What’s your advice to parents of aspiring students?
A :- Generally parents worry about the security of their children studying in foreign countries. In the US, I can say it’s very secure. There is no racism in the US as compare to Australia or UK. The US people are really good, especially the school staff and that community. They help every international student in all the possible way they can.
As far as quality of education is there, there is no comparison. Its worth doing MBA from the US. I would suggest that don’t go for any school. Now a day, it’s also a business for American B-schools to attract international students because they get very high fees from international students. So do thorough analysis about the school before applying or taking admission. Take help from students who are already doing their studies in the US to get accurate information. If you have any relative in the US, then I would advise to choose a school in that area so that it’s helpful for the student to get in touch with them and it’s kind of moral support.

Q :- Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA
A :- A good school and funding for fee & living are the keys.

Q :- What are you future plans?
A :- My future plan is to get a internship in the US, which would be helpful to get a full-time job. The US economy is getting better so I’m hoping for something good to come in my way.

Q :- How did you fund your higher education?
A :- I’m very much thankful to Credila for giving me education loan to fund my studies.

Q :- Why did you choose Credila?
A :- There are a couple of reasons I chose Credila:

My Life at College of William & Mary

Chaitra G. shares her experience at College of William and Mary.

Q :- Please tell us about which course is you doing and why did you choose that course?
A :- I am pursuing MBA. I chose the course because I wanted to continue in my field but at a managerial position. Also, I wanted to understand how overall business works.

Q :- Why did you choose the USA for higher education?
A :- I plan to pursue my career in the field of IT software. A majority of the clients in this industry come from the USA. So, when I plan to understand business, I wanted to do it better where my clients would be so that it is easier for me to understand them later when I interact during my career.

Q :- How is College of William & Mary different than any other USA University based on whatever you have heard from your friends about?
A :- 1] The College of William and Mary is very unique in its selection and education process. They personally speak and get to know the students before they conduct the interviews. The faculty is extremely helpful.
2] Above all, the executive partner program provides you an immense experience in working with a veteran of the industry you are interested in.

Q :- Are you happy with your decision?
A :- Yes

Q :- Please share some of your experiences of the USA for aspiring students
A :- 1] One of the things that I have learnt in the past few weeks is that it is not easy and simple to migrate into another country. There are many aspects of the way we talk, interact and live which comes from the place that we originate from. I had to re-learn basics aspects of like how to cross the road to speaking to employers and companies. So, it has been a tremendous learning curve for me. It has also been exciting because I had never realized what I do and the way I do it because I come from a particular background.
2] There are many things which I would like to share for the aspiring students. Particularly from my experience because I live in a small town and not a city. So, you may not find Indian stores to shop in every place. Please be aware of the same. From where I live, the Indian store is about 2hours away and there is no public transport to it.
3] I think finding out about basic things would have made my stay here during the first one month a lot smoother. So, it is necessary to find out about the basic aspects of living such as which mobile connection to buy (sometimes all service providers do not have network in all areas. AT&T doesn’t work in the place where I live!). I chose to buy a laptop in the US. So, find out which is the best way to buy a laptop, online or the nearest store available. It is best if you have an apartment before landing here because it is extremely difficult to land here and then hunt for an apartment. Do a lot of research on the public transport in the place and how frequent, how easy it is and what are the places it does and does not cover, like may be the nearest wallmart store or the nearest mall. If you plan to buy a car, find out if the state allows you to drive on the International drivers Permit. Many states do not allow you to drive on these.
4] The best source for all these queries is the current students and faculty of the college, the admissions staff and the alumni.

Q :- What’s your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?
A :- Find out about the course which is offered at the college and how it is paced and what are its concentrations and focuses. Each college is different in terms of what they focus on during the course and this must be matching with your interests.

Q :- Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA ?
A :- It is important to learn the culture of the place where you would be living. So, make a few Americans as friends. This is important because now you will find Indians in all colleges no matter where you go. So, if you would stick to your Indian pals, you may end up not knowing many things about the inherent culture of the country. I understand it is an easier choice to find someone from India and stick to them but don’t do it. Remember that Americans are very nice and helpful people.

Q :- How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India ?
A :- 1] Studies in the USA are very demanding. In India you are not expected to be “prepared” for the classes which you attend and you can make it to good scores if you can study on your own and do well in the exams at the end. This does not work in the USA. You need to do your readings before every class. Every class would have a deliverable in terms of an assignment or a project work or some group activities. These are important to be submitted as most part of your final grades depend on these everyday submissions rather than the exams at the end.
2] Invest effort in building a relationship with the lecturers. This pays and the lecturers have complete control here on the way they would organize the course and how much factor would your assignments play and your grading structure etc., For example, if you were unable to do well on a particular assignment, you can go and speak to the lecturer. If he finds that your reasons are genuine, he may not change your score but he may give an additional assignment to the entire class and change the weightage of the previous assignment.

Q :- Is it worth spending so much money to get a degree from the USA as compared to similar degree in India with lower costs?
A :- The learning curve is very high for the education in the US compared to the same degree in India. Further, the opportunities are very wide and diverse in the US as compared to India. In India you may not get a job if you are interested in working in a very specific profile. But in the US, it is possible to find the exact job however unique it is which interests you. It is a land of opportunities.

Q :- What’s your advice to parents of aspiring students?
A :- 1] Coming from a middle class family, I understand that you are spending a lot of money, but do look at it as an investment rather than an expenditure. I assure you that if your child is sincere, there are far more ways to success in this land than back home.
2] It is also hurting to see your children leave home to a strange land but all of it is a part of the learning experience. Communication has improved drastically over the past few years. I stay in constant touch with my family and it does not cost much to speak for a couple of hours every week. Further Skype has provided an angle of presence to the communication. Technology will help you be much closer to your children.

Q :- Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA
A :- Make sure the course is something that you would want to do and you have your motivation high. It is easier to loose motivation here because the courses are very demanding. Be ready to work 14-15hours a day. Education here is not simple. Dedication, discipline and determination are the only things which can ensure your success.

Q :- Any other advice to students and parents?
A :- It is definitely a better choice to study here than in India so remember that you are making the right choice.

Q :- What are you future plans?
A :- Have a successful career in the field of IT software at the customer relationship handling.

Q :- How did you fund your higher education?
A :- I took an education loan from Credila for tuition and living expenses.

Q :- Why did you choose Credila?
A :- 1] Faster loan processing
2] The representative comes home and all the paper work can be done sitting at the comfort of your home.

I stayed with an American family for the first two days after I arrived. They were really very caring and friendly. They even cooked dhal (which she didn’t know it was) and rice for me and another Indian who stayed with me there in their house. I liked it and they are really good people. In general, Americans are friendly.

Q :- What’s your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?
A :- First of all I would support their decision. And secondly, I advise them to work hard and to get used to the time constraint system here to do well later.

Q :- Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA ?
A :- Well.. the people here are very disciplined and neat. More than anything I like the common sense they have shown in building public buildings and other properties.
I learnt punctuality and work ethic. There is no room for plagiarism. In the latter case you are in real trouble. In my first 4 weeks, I could just see this. I hope to learn more and teach more about INDIA.

Q :- How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India ?
A :- Nothing Common!! Professors are really good. Every student is assigned an advisor for his entire graduate studies. He/ she will be guided in the proper direction based on their own interests. Everything about you needs to be updated to your advisor. And there are Homework’s !! and you are continuously evaluated throughout the semester/quarter based on homework, projects, quizzes, midterm etc. They follow GPA system. Max is 4.

Q :- Is it worth spending so much money to get a degree from the USA as compared to similar degree in India with lower costs?
A :- Well I would say Yes!!

A :- “Please don’t fear or have lot of concerns. Financially you are backed by Credila and rest here will be automatically taken care by your daughter/son.”
